The CANTUTA is the national flower of Peru and has been considered the sacred flower of the Incas. The species is native to the Andes of Bolivia and Peru, where it has been cultivated since ancient times.
It is said that the Incas found in it natural essences that allowed the conservation of water. When the Inca emperor participated in any ceremony, the paths where he was taken were adorned with cantuta flowers. It also served to adorn the temples of the young participants in the Warachikuy, a ceremony in which they became aukak runa (warriors). Its name comes from Quechua qantu. Their common names are: Cantu, cantuta, ccantu, ccantus, ccantutay, ccelmo, flor de inca, jantu, jinllo and khantuta.
