Lima bean is a Peruvian legume produced in the regions of Ica, Lima, Lambayeque, Arequipa, Ancash, Apurimac and Huancavelica.
With the scientific name Phaseolus lunatus, it is an economical food that is easy to cook and rich in nutrients. According to the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (Midagri), a Lima bean provides energy from its starches and is an excellent food for improving physical and mental performance.
It can also prevent hypertension and reduce morbidity and mortality in patients with myocardial infarction or heart failure.
