The alabaster deposits known locally as Chacolla stone, are extracted by hand from quarries near the city of Huamanga (Chacolla), they occur naturally in the form of outcrops resulting from erosion. The characteristics of alabaster that stand out the most are: its low hardness (the stone's hardness ranges between 2.0 and 2.7 on the Mohs scale) and its whitish color (due to its fine-grained cryptocrystalline structure). These ornamental rocks are intended to be used as decorative objects.
